An evil-looking puzzle

Let me introduce you to this ‘evil-looking’ puzzle that marks a real milestone for me.

This challenge isn’t just tough—it's guaranteed to have exactly one unique solution. If you manage to solve it flawlessly (the system on my blog will let you know if you make a mistake), be sure to drop a comment and let me know how many attempts it took you! I’m really curious to see who can conquer this one.

Update:

I’ve minimized the clues since the original version — and somehow it looks even more intimidating now. Yet the logic remains perfectly intact, with a single unique solution still guaranteed.

Ghosted Rooms – A Novel Puzzle Book with 104 Challenges

Note (Update):

This booklet is based on an earlier version of Ghosted Rooms, where each room was required to have exactly one missing number.

In the current version of the puzzle, a room may have any number of missing values — from none, to several, or even all of them.

I’m excited to present my very first Ghosted Rooms puzzle booklet!

This 6×9 inch collection features 104 original challenges across three different grid sizes, all with complete solutions.

What makes Ghosted Rooms unique?

  • Each grid must be partitioned into rooms of exactly ten cells.
  • Room shapes are predefined: four basic forms that, with rotations and reflections, create 18 possible variants.
  • The twist: every room is missing exactly one number, and it’s your task to deduce it.
  • The partitioning is always unique — there is only one valid way to divide the grid into rooms.

✏️ Solving tip: Use pencil and paper, because you’ll often need to revise your lines. Or try two colored pens — one for sketching tentative boundaries, the other for finalizing the solution.

This is a brand-new kind of logic puzzle, unlike anything you’ve seen before. Fans of Sudoku, Kakuro, and other grid-based puzzles will discover something both fresh and challenging.

Welcome to Ghosted Rooms!

I’m excited to finally share something I’ve been working on for quite some time: a brand-new type of logic puzzle.

Unlike Sudoku or other familiar grid-based games, Ghosted Rooms introduces its own twist:

  • The grid must be divided into rooms with fixed shapes.
  • Each room is either empty or contains distinct numbers.
  • The solver’s task is to reconstruct the unique room partitioning of the entire grid.

That unique combination makes Ghosted Rooms feel both familiar and completely new — every puzzle is both a logic challenge and a discovery.
